    Opening a tube of lipstick might seem like a simple thing to do... but as someone who experiences dexterity issues because of an autoimmune disease, some days it feels impossible. I’m not alone. Millions of Americans struggle with disabilities, including dexterity limitations like mine.

    Rare Beauty was founded on inclusivity, and we’re expanding our definition with the Made Accessible seal. It’s a way to identify products that have been verified accessible by Casa Colina, a non-profit research institute and rehabilitation center for people with disabling conditions. The partnership came about organically. I’ve always been drawn to smooth, blendable formulas and easy-to-open packaging, and eventually there was a lightbulb moment: let’s test them to confirm their accessibility and work towards creating a clear standard for future products. Rare beauty is made to feel good in.

      We go by the strict cosmetic standards of the European Union, which means we ban more than 1,600 chemicals from going into our products.

      We go above and beyond to exclude these ingredients from our formulas; however, trace amounts are sometimes unavoidable. We work closely with our manufacturers and third-party labs to keep them within safe and permitted industry levels.

      *We formulate without gluten-derived ingredients; however, due to unavoidable cross-contamination in the manufacturing process, traces of these ingredients are sometimes possible.

    • Each and every ingredient we use is researched and tested by both internal and independent scientific experts, such as:

      Once the ingredients are approved as safe for use, we send our products through several external tests including safety, trace contaminant, and microbiological testing with third-party labs. And of course, we make sure all our formulas pass skin-sensitivity testing and are reviewed by third-party safety assessors. All tests performed are dependent on the nature of the formula, final packaging, and intended use.
